I purchased an e-bike so I can get from point A to point B without too much exertion during winter. The cold reduces the capacity of my heart to pump blood thru my legs. There's also the issue of having to breathe wood smoke because many homes are using wood stoves to reduce their electricity/oil cost. This polluted air lingers on the roadways when the temperature is below freezing.

I was facing an issue and an e-bike was the solution. When the battery dies, I'll be back on my trusty Canadian Tire mountain bike, which is 1/3 the weight. Or maybe I'll splurge on an ultralight carbon fibre bike. I'll find as many 'solutions' as I can until my ageing carcass wears out.

I haven't held a regular job since 2000. Living off my savings and on a fixed income gave me the time to explore many topics, including ecological overshoot. I live in a wealthy country with a social safety net, which gave me the option of spending my time gathering knowledge instead of working. In other words I'm one of Mitt Romney's useless eaters.

Getting off the hamster wheel in my late twenties because of an undiagnosed personality disorder was crucial to the evolution of my thinking. So here I am.
